Chisinau Municipality represented at the 6th UNESCO International Conference of Learning Cities
Ion Ceban, the General Mayor presented today to the municipal councilors the package of documents in order to purchase during the current year a lot of 100 buses. The buses are planned to be assembled in Chisinau to completely renew the rolling stock of M.E."Urban Bus Park" (UBP) and this way to improve the quality of public passenger transport services.
Ion Ceban mentioned that the lot would be purchased from the bus production plant in Belarus because their units meet the technical conditions required by the municipality (German engine, automatic transmission, low floor, modern equipment, etc.) and are the most competitive on the international market in terms of price (about 120 thousand Euros).
The Mayor of the capital specified that the price of buses from Belarus which could be assembled in Chisinau will be 7-10% lower than the one proposed for sale by the production plants plus the VAT exemption.
The future acquisition must be approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council so the Mayor asked the local elected officials to examine the package of documents and make proposals. The General Mayor mentioned that after obtaining the agreement from the CMC and carrying out all the procurement procedures the first buses could arrive in Moldova this June.
The Mayor's initiative comes in the context of the provisions of the Transport Strategy of Chisinau approved in 2014.
Currently UBP has 143 transport units with an age average of about 14 years (taking into account the 30 new units purchased in 2019).
