Chisinau City Hall informs that the local public administration will continue the process of evacuation of cigarette booths around social institutions (schools and medical institutions), even if interested economic operators are against requests and do not want to suspend their activity or to remove tobacco products from sale.
Statements in this regard were made today by the General Mayor through the social network, (the mayor is currently on a working visit to Turkey). Ion Ceban wanted to specify that the cigarette kiosks, located with serious deviations from the legislation will be evacuated.
First of all, units with expired location schemes will be removed. The other economic agents, who have valid documents, are called to comply with the requests regarding the exclusion from sale of tobacco products. In case of refusal or disobedience they are subject to administrative sanctions.
"We do not negotiate with the children's health, nor the public health, nor the aesthetic aspect of the city, which must return to the normality. Serious deviations from the legislation regarding the placement of cigarette kiosks should be eliminated, and we are determined to do so" said the Mayor.
Regarding the discontent of the cigarette sellers who protested Wednesday at the City Hall, most of them elderly, because they could be out of work, Mr. Ion Ceban specified that the municipality will find solutions to help them, although the cigarette kiosks should be evacuated.
Only Monday and Tuesday, 31 booths and kiosks were evacuated and this process keep going.
