Ion Ceban, General Mayor, has signed two memorandums with the financial services companies, MasterCard and VISA, which will implement a pilot project on the electronic tall system in public transport in Chisinau, for a period of 6 months.
According to the project, initially, it is planned to install the necessary equipment for electronic payment of the trip in trolleybuses and buses, as well as training of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company' s employees (RTEC) and the City Bus Park (PUA), after which the system will be tested within six months.
During the testing period, the electronic toll system will be used on a trolleybus route and a bus route, and RTEC and PUA will conclude contracts with service providers.
After the pilot project is completed, the possibilities for expanding contactless payments to all types of municipal transport in the city will be analysed.
In this context, Ion Ceban, Mayor General, assured that the two companies that will implement the pilot project will not be favoured when tenders are organized for the implementation of the electronic toll system in municipal public transport.
Irina Untila, director of Mastercard's office in Moldova, says that according to a study conducted by the company, 40% of Moldovans would like to pay for public transport with a card, this will provide comfort and safety to Chisinau residents.
