Chisinau City Hall informs that on Tuesday, March 30th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., the Municipal Library „B.P. Hasdeu " is organizing the 7th edition of the Reading contest " Battle of the books ", held in partnership with the " Octavian Goga Library" in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The event will take place online, on the Zoom platform and on the Facebook page of the library, with as guest Mrs Sorina Stanca, manager of the "Octavian Goga" Library in Cluj-Napoca and other participants.
The purpose of the "Battle of Books" Contest is focused on promoting reading among young people, developing the art of oratory, promoting books as an important factor in teenagers' education.
The contest is announced for two age categories: teenagers (15-18 years old) and children (11-14 years old). Among the rules for participation in the contest it is mentioned the following:
- Participating readers should read 10 books from the list provided by the organizers of the contest, books that can be found in the branches libraries of the Municipal Library „B.P. Hasdeu " from Chisinau.
- Participants must be readers of the library.
- Readers should complete a reading sheet during the competition, in which the impressions about the book that have been already read will be noted. Participants can choose the version of the "Reading File" in digital form, which can be accessed and completed on the Library page.
The finalists will participate in the final stage and will present the thesis "Convince me to read !", supporting the favorite book from the recommended list. In support of their opinion, competitors will answer questions from a jury, made up of writers, literary critics, librarians.
The finalist, who will present the most chosen favorite book and will answer the best and reasoned questions, will become the Reader of the Year 2021.
The jury will also award prizes to the following categories: reader of the year, proactive reader, creative reader, mentions. The finalists will receive diplomas and surprise gifts.
The preliminary stages of the Contest will take place between March and October 2021, with the aim of helping students read, turning reading into a real passion.
Participants will acquire a range of new skills: understanding literary texts, the ability to reflect on them, to formulate their own opinions, arguments and interpretations in writing and speaking debates.
