Today, the General Mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, had a meeting in the European Parliament with Vladimir Prebilic, Carla Dejonghe, and Stéphanie Poirel, rapporteurs within the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CORLEAP).
While in Strasbourg, where he is participating in the work of CORLEAP, the mayor of the capital informed the co-rapporteurs about the current situation in the Republic of Moldova in various fields.
"We discussed the electoral processes that took place during the local elections last autumn, as well as the latest regulatory updates for future elections.
Additionally, I highlighted the irregularities committed by central authorities regarding electoral matters and presented the position of the Congress of Local Authorities in Moldova (CALM) regarding progress, including both positive and negative aspects, concerning the European Charter of Local Self-Government, as well as the roadmap," mentioned the Mayor.
Ion Ceban also said that the Republic of Moldova must implement genuine EU standards in all areas. And these should not be mimicked, neglected or violated.
It's worth noting that the Mayor, along with colleagues from CALM, participated today in the launch of the 46th session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
Within this European forum, the mayor of the capital has several working sessions scheduled to address issues of Local Public Authorities in the Republic of Moldova, CALM's position in this regard, as well as the recent actions undertaken by Chisinau.
