The Chisinau City Hall informs that on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, granite stairs from the "Valea Morilor" Park were officially inaugurated after the reconstruction, an objective achieved with the financial support of the Bucharest municipality.
The event was attended by: Interim Mayor, Adrian Talmaci, His Excellency, the Ambassador of Romania to Chisinau, Daniel Ioniță, the Mayor of Sector 1, Bucharest, Daniel Tudorache, the Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau, academic, Valeriu Matei, municipal councilors, civil servants at Chisinau City Hall, cultural people, etc.
During the official ceremony, the Acting General Mayor, Adrian Talmaci, declared that the granite staircase, after renovation, is one of the most popular places to visit "Valea Morilor" Park by locals, who have a new place in the public space, to spend their free time, together with their loved ones, as well as tourists. The interim headmaster thanked the project managers, for the realization of the works in term, as well as for the beautiful collaboration between Centru District City Hall and the City Hall of sector 1, Bucharest, having as a result a gift to Chisinau for many years ahead.
The Head of Centru District, Pavel Rusu, responsible for the implementation of the Granite Stairs Reconstruction Project, noted that the rehabilitation nowadays means more than was initially achieved, in the '70s for this purpose, "because the stairs did not have a foundation then, but now there is, so the construction will take longer", said the Head of Centru District.
In his turn, HE, the Ambassador of Romania to Chisinau, Daniel Ioniță mentioned that through this project, the Romanian side wanted to bring "a bit of Europe" on the way to the European family. "And the plaque installed around it remains as evidence on which is written about the help of Bucharest for Chisinau ", said the Romanian diplomat.
And the Mayor of Sector 1 Bucharest, Daniel Tudorache, with the help of which it was possible to carry out the project of rehabilitation of granite stairs, said that by his gesture, the Romanian side wanted to give a helping hand to the brothers over Prut. The mayor also called other colleagues of his own to support the beautiful initiatives coming from Chisinau.
The rehabilitation of the granite stairs was made possible by a grant worth 18 million 970 thousand lei (about 920 thousand EURO) from the Local Council of Sector 1, Bucharest, Romania. At the same time, Chisinau City Council allocated 3.5 million lei, additionally, for a series of works related to the construction.
The reconstruction of the objective began in May 2018 and consisted of the rehabilitation of the foundation and the support walls of the 232 steps, the arrangement of 4 secondary access routes to the stairs, as well as the installation of LED-based luminaires along construction.
It is worth mentioning that the School dedicated to the heroes of the MIA fallen on duty, objective placed down the granite staircase, was renovated by the municipality. The cost of the project is 5 million lei, sources provided in the local budget for 2019.
