A delegation from the Chisinau City Hall, led by Deputy Mayor Ilie Ceban, recently paid a working visit to the German city of Mannheim, twinned with Chisinau.
Representatives of the Chisinau municipality had a meeting with the Mayor of Mannheim city, Peter Kurz, where were addressed various topics of common interest, including: organization of the BUGA 2023 exhibition, an initiative of Mannheim City Hall to create specific green areas in several twin cities (arranging a green area with specific Moldovan plants and handicrafts); managing the refugee crisis in Ukraine, including the granting of a financial aid from Mannheim, amounting to 250 thousand euros. Also here were addressed topics related to the experience of the 2 cities on managing the refugee crisis, joint projects and new project proposals.
The Deputy Mayor, Mr. Ilie Ceban invited the Mayor of Mannheim to participate in the Chisinau Economic Forum, foreseen for the autumn of this year.
Subsequently, the delegation from Chisinau had a meeting with the members of the Mannheim Local Council, chaired by Mr. Peter Kurz, the Mayor of Mannheim City.
Deputy Mayor Ilie Ceban gave a speech to the Mannheim Local Council, where he referred to the management of the Ukrainian refugee crisis by the Chisinau LPA and presented statistics on the flow of refugees and the current situation.
Mr. Ilie Ceban also thanked the hosts for the opening and for the material support from the city of Mannheim, which will arrive in Chisinau in the next period.
The local public authorities from Mannheim will help to manage the refugee crisis with material products, based on the requests submitted by the Chisinau municipality (non-perishable products, hygiene kits, household appliances, etc.).
It is worth mentioning that thanks to the support provided recently by the city of Mannheim, various projects have been carried out in the capital, intended to help improve the city's image and help to manage the pandemic situation through COVID-19 infection.
These initiatives include: the trilateral project "Mannheim - Chisinau - Chernivtsi, "Rethinking the public space. Citizens shape their future", in which the "George Coşbuc" square from the historic center of the capital was rehabilitated and the project "Together against COVID-19", implemented by Mannheim in coordination with Chernivtsi City.
This project has foreseen for the strengthening of partnerships based on solidarity, in an emergency situation, created by the pandemic. Here we managed to raise public awareness about compliance with the rules of physical restraint and hygiene to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus and replenish stocks with emergency medical equipment.
