The Chisinau City Hall informs that on Saturday, the winter holidays for 2023-2024 were officially kicked off in the capital, and the Christmas Market was opened in the Great National Assembly Square.
The General Mayor, Ion Ceban, took the stage alongside deputy mayors, sector mayors, department heads, municipal councilors, as well as a delegation from Buzau County, Romania, with whom the municipality is engaged in various important projects for the city.
The Mayor conveyed a congratulatory message to the citizens, emphasizing that the Christmas and New Year holidays are about unity, trust, and caring for each other. He wished the residents of Chisinau health and prosperity in their homes, and for the year 2024 to be better than the one that has passed.
The stage featured a program of carols and Christmas songs, and local performers put on a grand show.
The evening culminated in a performance by Ștefan Bănică Junior from Romania.
The Christmas Market will be open to visitors until January 23, 2024.
A variety of handcrafted and traditional artisanal items, themed souvenirs, toys, balloons, as well as food products such as fast food, snacks, cream-free pastries, confectionery, popcorn, cotton candy, lollipops, and both cold and hot beverages, including beer, will be available for purchase.
Additionally, a Santa Claus house and a photo zone are set up in the Great National Assembly Square. For children's entertainment, there are carousels, a little train, and other fun activities.
To support the New Year's theme, public transport vehicles in the capital have been decorated with colorful lights. Decorative lighting has also been set up in various sectors of the city.
The expenses for the preparation and implementation of Christmas and New Year's cultural and artistic events in the capital will be covered by the Chisinau City Hall, sector mayors, general directorates, departments, sections, and services subordinate to the City Hall, within the allocated financial means for the respective department for the year 2023. In the case of municipal enterprises, the expenses will be within their own financial resources.
