The Mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, is currently participating in the third edition of the UNESCO Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination, taking place in São Paulo, Brazil.

During a panel attended by mayors from cities across all continents and other global leaders, Ion Ceban delivered a presentation discussing the programs and policies developed in the municipality of Chisinau. He also highlighted that the year 2024 is dedicated to the "Year of Accessibility" in Chisinau, during which local authorities aim to implement various projects and activities.

The "Year of Accessibility" in Chisinau is an intersectoral initiative and commitment of the local public administration to develop and strengthen social areas, aiming to improve the quality of life for Chisinau residents, including enhancing accessibility in various aspects of urban life.

Local authorities commit to increasing efforts to create conditions for everyone in infrastructure, accessible transportation, education, health, and public services.

Municipal subdivisions, together with partners and civil society, will develop an Action Plan to improve accessibility to services and infrastructure, considering their competencies and management areas, as well as raising awareness of accessibility among the population.

Chisinau joins UNESCO's global call against racism and its roadmap, aiming to accelerate multilateral actions. The city also expresses its aspiration to become part of the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities (ICCAR).

Chisinau is home to several ethnicities, and the municipality ensures active collaboration with all organizations.

In Chisinau, there are community mediators who facilitate effective communication between public institutions and the Roma community in the capital.

Additionally, the Chisinau City Hall has taken all necessary measures to support the Ukrainian refugee community. Support has been provided for employment, enrolling children in schools and kindergartens, engaging young people, and launching a business program open to young refugees.

Chisinau is open to collaborations and the adoption of best practices, and the delegation from the Chisinau City Hall has engaged in discussions with Forum participants to explore new joint projects in the capital.
