The Chisinau Municipality was represented at the World Urban Forum held in Cairo, Egypt
Mr. Ion Ceban, Mayor General, had a meeting today with representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Moldova IT Park and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), entitled "Chisinau - the emerging IT destination of the year in Central and Eastern Europe". Discussions between the parties focused on attracting the use of the information technology industry in Chisinau, as well as the benefits of the municipality from the digital innovation created by this field.
The participants in the discussions unanimously reiterated the need to transform the capital into a smart city, which would benefit fully from digital solutions in various fields: utilities, street lighting, public transport, parking and other urban elements of infrastructure.
Mr. Ion Ceban, General Mayor, noted that the municipality aims to benefit of those capacities created at the national level and the potential of the IT industry, in order to implement as many innovative solutions in the management of the capital's activities, remote services provided for the population, public administration efficiency through digital solutions, etc.
Also, during the meeting, the participants referred to other activities which are Moldova IT Park, the network of Tekwill centers of excellence, various university platforms, contributed to Chisinau reaching the attention of the global IT community.
Thus, at the last event for Central and Eastern Europe held in Warsaw, Poland, in January 2020 - "CEE Business Services Summit & Awards", the Chisinau City obtained the title of "Emerging IT Destination of the Year".
The Mayor said that the municipality fully deserves this title, and local public authorities will take into account the expectations of the business community by creating modern office and leisure infrastructure, which is extremely important for attracting investors.
