Chisinau City Hall informs that in the context of the Code Red hot weather on the territory of the capital, the municipal services are carrying out a number of activities in the territory in order to help citizens to cope with this period.

On Monday, during the operational meeting of the municipal services, Deputy Mayor Ilie Ceban thanked the economic agents (representatives of financial and pharmaceutical institutions), involved together with the representatives of the municipality, for helping Chisinau residents during the hot days, who have provided water or certain medical services. "Thank you for such gestures. And we further appeal to citizens to refrain from being on the streets between 11:00-18:00, when temperatures are at their highest. We should also stay in the shade and hydrate properly," the deputy mayor said.

In his turn, Vladimir Bolocan, deputy head of the General Direction for Medical and Social Assistance, reiterated the urge to citizens, especially hypertensives, cardiac patients, pregnant women and children, to avoid traveling between the hours of 11:00-17:00; to air their homes in the evening, around 22:00, for a better cooling effect, and during the day to make sure that the windows of their apartment are closed and covered with curtains to avoid the hot air from penetrating. Also, children should not be left in the car for short periods, to be on the safe side.

Over the past week, more than 3000 citizens addressed to all the points of triage and anti-heat assistance, and the ambulance was called for reasons of heat in 587 cases (which represents 30% of the number of calls to the Emergency Prespital Assistance Service in a week). In addition, cases of heatstroke, both in adults and children, have been recorded, with 25 cases, including 11 children, being recorded in the past week.

Referring to the functioning of the air-conditioning system in public transportation units, trolleybuses and buses, Ilie Ceban said that in the last 3 years, the municipality has purchased over 300 trolleybuses and buses, mostly new, all of them equipped with air conditioning. And trolleybus and bus drivers are trained on how to manage the air-conditioning system, so citizens do not have to worry about their health on this aspect. What's more, the air conditioning system provides a more inviting environment for travelers in the hot weather.

The Chisinau City Hall has set up anti-heat tents in 16 locations across the capital, where people can receive hydration and medical assistance if needed.

Also with the aim of minimizing the impact of the heat wave on the population, road repair works are carried out at night and streets are washed in order to avoid deformation of the asphalt surface due to high temperatures.
