Chisinau City Hall informs that on Thursday, at the Palace of the Republic, the Gala of Sports Performance 2023 was held, where over 200 athletes and coaches from the capital were awarded for outstanding results obtained during the year in national and international competitions.

The award ceremony comes to appreciate the efforts and dedication of our athletes in promoting different kinds of sports and the representation of Chisinau municipality at international level.

Mayor General Ion Ceban, together with Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici and the Head of the General Directorate for Education, Youth and Sport, presented diplomas and awards to the best athletes and coaches in the municipality.

The mayor wished the athletes new performances in the coming year, to have as many champions as possible to represent our state with dignity at international and world championships.

At the same time, Ion Ceban said that in the last 4 years, the municipality has increased allocations for sports 7 times. And this to create better conditions for development. To support athletes at home and abroad, to hold festivals and championships and to highlight the talented people we have here at home.

The municipality also aims to organise international championships in Chisinau, to show the world that we have enough potential and talented athletes.

During 2023, athletes from the municipality of Chisinau achieved remarkable results at international competitions in various sports disciplines: wrestling, canoeing, weightlifting, judo, sports dance, etc. Impressive performances were also achieved by Paralympic athletes in the disciplines of para-judo, para-athletics, para-armwrestling, etc.

The municipality's objectives for the Sports Performance Gala are:

- Recognition of sporting excellence;

- to motivate and inspire young people;

- to promote sport in the community;

- facilitate interaction between athletes and the community.

The event was complemented by a musical performance with the participation of local artists.
