Chisinau Electric Transport M.E. will purchase two new, modern articulated trolleybuses, from an Italian company specialized in the sale of passenger transport units. A decision on this regard was adopted today, March 30, 2021, with a majority of votes by the Chisinau Municipal Council.

The transport units are of the Phileas Trolley VDL model, year of production 2014, not used in passenger transport and offered by the company “Basco” S.R.L. Italy. The price per unit is 50 000 euros.

The trolleybuses were checked by an authorized assessor from the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the expertise showed that the transport units are in new technical condition, with a low floor on the perimeter of the salon, equipped with air conditioning systems, autonomous propulsion (diesel engine) and body with corrosion protection. At the same time, the electricity consumption of the new transport units is lower than that of the old trolleybuses currently running on the streets of Chisinau.

In this context, Ion Ceban, the General Mayor, mentioned that the need to purchase transport units for Chisinau is a pressing one, taking into account that the current state of trolleybuses, including articulated units, within the Chisinau Electric Transport M.E. is a precarious one.

It is worth mentioning that RTEC has 392 trolleybuses, including 18 articulated ones. Moreover, 6 articulated units of ZiU and IuMZ model were produced in 1995-1996, with an operating period of over 25 years.
