The Chisinau City Administration bid farewell to writer Spiridon Vangheli

The Chisinau City Hall administration, headed by the General Mayor, Mr. Ion Ceban, attended the farewell ceremony of Spiridon Vangheli, Writer of the People, Honorary Citizen of Chisinau, who was passed away on Monday.

Also, during the operational meeting of the municipal services, the people in attendance held a moment of silence in memory of Spiridon Vangheli.

The General Mayor said that the writer will always remain in the hearts of his readers through the work left as a legacy to the present generations. Ion Ceban also sent his deep condolences to Spiridon Vangheli's family and loved ones.

The great master of words, Spiridon Vangheli, prose writer, translator and publisher, was an ambassador of our national culture and literature, leaving his spirit of extraordinary nobility in his books.

Vangheli's work has been translated into more than 40 languages and has appeared in 68 countries. He has been awarded several national and international prizes, including the Hans Christian Andersen Honorary Diploma, the State Award, the Romanian Writers' Prize. He has also held the title of People's Writer and Knight of the Order of the Republic.

Spiridon Vangheli was born on June 14, 1932, in the village of Grinăuți, Balti County.
