The Chisinau City Hall informs that the pilot project for the introduction of an electronic payment system in municipal public transport will start in mid-March.

The pilot project will be tested in 90 trolleybuses (on routes 10, 22, 30, 32) and 46 buses (routes 2, 5, 9, 19, 26 and 33) in the capital. This project will last 6 months and is carried out in cooperation with MasterCard and VISA as project partners.

At the same time, the officials of the General Department for Public Transport and Communications Paths, "Chisinau Electric Transport Department" and "Urban Bus Park" Municipal Enterprises will conclude agreements with the operators that provide electronic payment services. Employees of municipal transport enterprises will be trained, and electronic equipment will be installed in public transport.

In this context, Mayor General Mr.Ion Ceban held a meeting with the responsible persons, during which an update on the stage of the project implementation was provided. Thus, the specialists will have to draw up several scenarios covering all categories of citizens, including people with public transport pass, or using tourist services.

The introduction of the electronic payment system in municipal public transport is implemented on the basis of a public-private partnership.
