Chisinau City Hall in collaboration with medical experts and civil society representatives has developed, for the first time the Municipal Program for the prevention and control of HIV / AIDS and other communicable infections. For the implementation of the program 500 thousand lei were provided from the municipal budget this year.

This was announced by Angela Cutasevici, the deputy mayor of the capital during a press briefing held today on the International Day of Remembrance of those who died of HIV / AIDS. The event took place in the square of Europe in the Public Garden "Stefan cel Mare și Sfant" and is part of the campaign "Viruses are different, people - the same" organized by "Positive Initiative".

According to the deputy mayor, HIV / AIDS is a preventable disease, which is scientifically proven by effective prevention interventions which reduce the risks of transmitting the infection.

"People who are tested for HIV in time and find out they are infected can make significant behavioral changes to improve and maintain their health as well as to protect those around them. In this context, Chisinau City Hall supports programs and develops municipal projects for HIV / AIDS prevention and health care ", Angela Cutasevici mentioned.

It is worth mentioning that, , about 14 thousand people from the Republic of Moldova have been diagnosed with HIV and 4 thousand of them have died due to AIDS in the last 30 years.
