At the invitation of UNESCO, the General Mayor of Chisinau Municipality, Ion Ceban, participated at the 6th International Conference of Learning Cities, held in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, together with leaders and experts from around the world.

The central theme of the event, " Learning Cities: a sustainable future for all", emphasizes the essential role of education in sustainable development.

Chisinau, a member of UNESCO's global network of Learning Cities since 2020, is reconfirming its commitment to integrate education, sustainable development and environmental protection into its future strategies.

The capital's mayor presented Chisinau's vision of green urban development, highlighting the municipality's key projects:

• Expansion of green spaces;
• Modernization of public transport;
• Increasing energy efficiency in infrastructure;
• Promoting sustainable practices in all areas.

”A key pillar of sustainability is education.

Through educational institutions, youth centers and adult education centers, Chisinau promotes a culture of environmental responsibility, actively involving citizens, both young people and adults," said the Mayor of the Capital.

During the Parallel Session 1: "Education for impact at the local level: the importance of adult learning centers in greening communities", the General Mayor underlined the importance of adult education in supporting sustainable development and promoting local environmental action, noting that these centers are active community hubs that facilitate citizens' involvement in adopting green practices and developing sustainable communities.

 "I express my gratitude for UNESCO's continued commitment to promoting education as a fundamental tool in building a sustainable future, and as a valued partner of Chisinau, which has been presented as an example of good practice in this field.

Our commitment remains firm: a greener, more sustainable and better educated Chisinau for future generations", concluded the mayor of the capital.

Through the exchange of best practices, international collaboration and partnerships, Chisinau strengthens its position in the global network of learning cities, inspiring other communities to adopt innovative solutions for the future.
