Today, December 3, we mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reaffirming our commitment to upholding their rights, promoting social inclusion and facilitating their active participation in community life.

The Chisinau City Hall, through the General Direction for Medical and Social Assistance (DGAMS) and the General Direction for the Protection of Children's Rights (DGPDC), has implemented significant measures in support of persons with disabilities throughout 2024:

 I. Care and support services

Social care at home: 1,300 lonely persons were supported by social workers.

Rehabilitation and support at home: 85 people with disabilities received physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support through the Mobile Team Service.

Day centers: 55 young people with intellectual disabilities and autism participated in personal development activities in START and ADIR centers.

Childcare:

•  230 children with severe disabilities received occupational therapy and physiotherapy in specialized day centres.
•  610 children received support through the Personal Assistance Service.
•  156 children benefited from rest sheets at "Alunelul" camp.
•  22 children were included in the RESPIRO Social Program, providing families with support and respite. Other essential services:
• 500 people benefited from hot lunches.
• 143 people received aids (wheelchairs, canes, etc.).
•  225 people accessed rehabilitation tickets at the "Hope" sanatorium.

II. Financial support granted: 5272 persons with disabilities received material aid, amounting to 3 806 100 MDL. 20 975 people received transportation compensation amounting to 29 648 290 MDL. 485 people and 172 children received food and hygiene vouchers with the support of the Red Cross Society.

610 children received 4 000 MDL in cash aid through the social service "Support for families with children".

III. Aid on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On this occasion, the Chisinau City Hall provided one-off material aid to 2 184 persons with disabilities, totaling 1 574 500 MDL, including:

•  50 persons with disabilities from the Public Association "Society of Invalids" - 2 000 MDL each.
• 864 persons with hearing impairment - 500 MDL each (10 active members - 2 000 MDL each).
• 755 visually impaired persons - 1 000 MDL each (10 active members - 2 000 MDL each).
• 495 parents of children with disabilities in special schools - 500 MDL/child.

Through these actions, LPA Chisinau reaffirms its commitment to support people with disabilities, to facilitate their access to services and to give them equal opportunities to actively contribute to the life of the community.
