The Chisinau City Hall informs that, in the context of metrological warnings of changing weather conditions, the Crisis Cell was activated at the level of the Chisinau municipality in order to coordinate actions regarding snow removal interventions and emergency management.

Decisions in this regard were adopted by the members of the Emergency Situations Committee of the Municipality of Chisinau (CSE), which met today.

According to the decision of the Chisinau SSC No. 8 of January 6, 2024, an exceptional situation is observed at the local level, in connection with the establishment by the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) of the Code Orange for frost, blizzard and snowfall throughout the country (complicated weather conditions are expected with rainfall in the form of rain with transformation into sleet and heavy snowfall 15-20 l/m2, isolated with viscoli, on the roads will form troughs and ice).

In this context, the municipal services in the sphere of road management, housing-communal, as well as medical and social assistance, are monitoring the situation and are ready to intervene when necessary.

The technical and specialised machinery of the relevant authorities are prepared for snow clearing activities and have sufficient stocks of anti-skid material.

At the same time, the local command set up during the work of the crisis cell will coordinate the necessary actions and will operate on a permanent basis during the period of blizzards and heavy snowfall, as notified by the weather warnings issued by the SHS, throughout the winter.   

If necessary, specialized equipment from the municipal enterprises will be put into operation, as well as those contracted, rented or made available to APL Chisinau by economic agents in the territory.

The economic operators will also clean the snow from the access roads in the area and territories where they operate.

In this regard, during the meeting of the Chisinau SSC, Mayor General Ion Ceban asked municipal officials to mobilize for actions to be taken promptly in the event of a sudden change in the weather, announced by the State Hydrometeorological Service for the period 7-10 January.

Thus, we warn citizens, in the context of warnings of weather change and the issuance of code orange for heavy rainfall, to be cautious on the streets and in traffic, not to park their cars under trees and to heed the recommendations of the authorities.
