The Chisinau City Hall informs that on Wednesday in the kindergarten - nursery school No. 141, Sarmizegetusa Street, 39/3, Botanica Sector, was inaugurated a nursery group with 24 places for children aged 2-3 years, in order to increase the capacity of the pre-school institution. The project was carried out with the financial support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in order to increase the enrolment capacity of children, including those from refugee families.

     The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici, the Deputy Head of the General Directorate for Education, Youth and Sport Andrei Pavaloi, representatives of development partners, etc.

     The capital refurbishment project of the group hall included: rehabilitation of the activity space, the dormitory, the toilet block, the cloakroom and the speech therapist's office. New furniture, soft inventory, tableware and games for the children were also purchased.

     The rehabilitation of the nursery group is important for the pre-school institution, as it will allow the enrolment of 24 more children, aged 2-3 years. They will be enrolled, according to the plan, from May 2024.

     Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici thanked the partners: UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED), for their support, including the rehabilitation of early education institutions in the municipality. "This is a sustainable investment, absolutely necessary, considering that the number of children in Chisinau is constantly increasing, including refugee children. The need to expand the groups and the need to enrol children in kindergartens is quite high. We have over 7 thousand applications pending, so any support is welcome and is long-term. We are glad that together we managed to realize this project", the deputy mayor added.

     In the last 3 years, LPA Chisinau has allocated significant financial resources to improve the conditions of activity of Kindergarten No. 141, Botanica district. Thus, in 2021, 1.3 million MDL were invested for capital repairs for the opening of 2 new groups and 300 000 MDL for equipping the groups; in 2022, 1.35 million MDL were allocated for capital repairs for the opening of 2 new groups, 300 000 MDL for equipping the groups and 1.9 million MDL for capital repairs; in 2023, 1.12 million MDL were allocated for capital repairs.

     Kindergarten no. 141 was founded in 1970 with a total capacity of 14 groups, of which 12 are functional, attended by 232 children. Now the institution will have 15 groups of children.

     At present, 321 children from Ukrainian refugee families are enrolled in kindergartens in Chisinau.
