The Chisinau Municipality was represented at the World Urban Forum held in Cairo, Egypt
Ion Ceban, General Mayor, together with the country's leadership, took part today in the Requiem of the Holocaust Victims Commemoration, held near the Monument to the Fascism Victims, in no. 36, Calea Orheiului street.
In his speech, the Mayor noted that January 27 marks the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps in 1945 and the end of the Holocaust when 6 million Jews were killed in camps during World War II.
"Such terrible events for human history must not be repeated and that regardless of whether there are crisis situations or political circumstances. I express my solidarity with the Jewish and Roma community. Now, our duty is to preserve the memory of these terrible acts as well as to fight violence and discrimination, in any form, and to educate a tolerant society", the Mayor underlined.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day, celebrated annually on 27 January, was established in 2005 by a United Nations resolution to commemorate the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
