The Chisinau Municipality was represented at the World Urban Forum held in Cairo, Egypt
Ion Ceban, General Mayor had a meeting today with Serghei Pușcuța, Minister of Finance in order to implement the project "Solid waste Chisinau" with financing from EBRD and EIB including part of the grant, recently approved by CMC.
Based on the support provided by the two European banking institutions, within the "Solid Waste Chisinau" Project will be carried out works on the re-cultivation of provisional garbage collectors from in Ciocana District, investments in the renovation of the infrastructure of the Țânțăreni in accordance with EU standards; modernization of the fleet of trucks and infrastructure for waste transportation in the city, rehabilitation of the transfer station and installation of a sorting line for recyclable waste, collected separately.
Ion Ceban declared that the project "Solid waste Chisinau" is one of vital importance for the capital, so that the modernization of the waste collection, transportation and storage service is imminent. "Reforms and changes are needed, including from the City Hall through efficient management, as well as from the citizens, through the awareness that we must think about the ecological perspective of this city: air, water, modernized landfills, resources that we leave to the descendants. The garbage generated by each of us: authorities, economic agents , families, the whole community must be sorted as much as possible", the Mayor underlined.
The general financing plan of the project provides:
- EBRD loan - 9.0 million Euros;
- EIB loan - 9.0 million Euros, to be paid to the City Hall as a non-reimbursable loan through the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development, as an integral part of the Waste Management Project in the country;
- Grant - 5.0 million Euros;
- Municipal financing of the project - 7.96 million Euros, of which 1.5 million Euros have already been invested;
- Technical support of the project - 0.85 million Euro.
